EDBSEconomic Development
EDBS provide the Economic Development service for the District of Easington council. The Economic Development Team work closely with local and regional partners to develop, manage and implement a variety of initiatives to create a diverse and strong local economy within East Durham.
This activity is wide ranging and includes:
- Managing capital projects
- Providing modern and appropriate business accommodation
- Marketing East Durham as a business location
- Encouraging people into work and an entrepreneurial culture
All of which is helping to diversify the local economy, raise the quality of life for local residents and improve the confidence of our business community. The main areas of work are:
Creating Modern Business Infrastructure
The development of employment sites and accommodation that can meet the needs of businesses. Helping to ensure that infrastructure and our business environment is appropriate. East Durham has a diverse range of employment sites, including Peterlee Industrial Estates and Spectrum Business Park which comprise international and home-grown companies.
Marketing East Durham
Promoting the quality of life in East Durham and raising awareness of the opportunities available to:
- Businesses
- Investors
- Residents
Employability and Tackling Barriers to Employment
Working with partners and employers to encourage people into employment and sustainable jobs. Helping to tackle barriers that residents have such as appropriate skills and encouraging job growth within East Durham.
Strategy, Policy and Partnerships
The Team has played a key role in developing local policies and strategies with partners and responded to national and regional policy development. The Team also works closely with East Durham’s Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) to ensure targets and objectives are met. These targets include:
- Tackling Barriers to Employment
- Building Businesses
- A Quality Learning and Business Environment
