Apprenticeships East Durham is run by East Durham Business Service, Connexions East Durham and Easington Action for Jobs and is funded by County Durham Learning and Skills Council.
Apprenticeships are an excellent way to prepare you for the world of work and they can serve as an alternative route to University. The scheme lets you earn money at the same time as gaining nationally recognised qualifications in a diverse range of sectors.
How do I qualify to join the programme?
Apprenticeships are available to people aged between 16 and 24 who have already left full time education or are already in employment.
Is there just one type of programme?
There are two programmes, the Apprenticeship and the Advanced Apprenticeship.
- Apprenticeships work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 2. Areas covered are communication, number application and in some cases a technical certificate.
- Advanced Apprenticeships work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 3 which involves training in the key skills and a technical certificate.
How long does it take to complete?
The apprenticeship can take between one and four years to complete.
